Blogger, simple yet powerful

While having nice refreshing sips of traditional coffee in "warung kopi"(*) with wireless internet connection, I managed to play around with the look of my blog. In addition to that, I made a manga version of my profile picture. Check it out!

..87% looked alike.

Well, this is what I spontaneously found while playing around in the configuration panel of blogging service site. blogger is awesome.  Everything is almost configurable. I can customize the  layout of the blog, adding various addon modules (called gadget), and also creating alternative way to post article by email, etc. And the best of all, it can be controlled easily. If one is new to blogging, blogger.com can be one of the options to try. The basic control should be very easy to understand. If one is familiar with the interface of webmail, setting up a blog in blogger.com should not be any problem. To get to know the feature better, one only needs to discover the dashboard and explore the subtabs in the in the main tabs.  Knowing the basic setup and how to post article is more than enough for starters like me. Later, if you are thinking to try another blogging service, I recommend wordpress, although by far, blogger is much simpler and easier, IMHO.

But once you know that the blog you are managing is like a display for your articles, you would like to tweak the look, the layout, the modules, etc, to make it more eye-catching and personalized. To do this you need to learn the advance configuration, which is still not that complicated. Who knows if later the blog can get a big hit on visitors. Of course it is possible if you could manage to post quality articles. But for now, let's stick to the easy feature of blogging so anybody can easily blog and share. Just add some simple addon or logo or picture to make the blog become more "you". It really adds the fun blogging.

*Kedai Kopi = traditional coffeshop. (The town that I live,  Banda Aceh, is known for having nickname "home for thousands coffeshops." And almost all cafe including the traditional coffeshops have free broadband wifi internet connection. I don't think any other town in this world has this extreme fanatism to coffee and internet...

This is only my humble review of the site service and features. For sure, I have no affiliation whatsoever to the company behind blogger or wordpress. Thanks for reading, comments are very welcome.

    Hi Rahmat..

It seems that your personal skills as a freelance web designer comes up *two thumbs up*

I agree with Cecilia..it looks professional ^^ the header picture is the best part and also the manga thing ixixi..When I saw it on my blog..your name's pop up LOL..

Yes..you're right..Blogger is awesome for starters.. I learned about blogging in 2002 when my friend,Leony, asked me to make one. I didn't know about Blogger at that time because she offered me to make a blog under her own personal website. I learned the hard way of making a blog by using Wordpress *sigh*

Robert said that it's powerful and complicated.. no doubt it was.. LOL

I found out about Blogger six months later...after learning the hard one,it was nice to have the easier. Even though the site didn't have many features before but for the beginner like me, it was very fun and enjoyable.

Did you know that there were not any available templates with pictures and so on that time? only the HTML page and the tools for changing the colours..now you can imagine how was my blog LOL

I like the new but still miss the old one..

  3. Hi Rahmat,
I'm Yudi from Malang. I'm very happy that we have 3 participants for this course from Indonesia. It's nice to know you. How's Banda Aceh now? I was there several years ago back in 1990s when I joined Garuda. Hope everything is fine after the tsunami:((
Well, keep up with the good work (the manga:)) and see you on your next blog.
    Cheers,
    Yudi

  4. Thanks for the comments. I'm very happy myself knowing you all.

I managed to use webforum discussions to get a threaded discussion with my students. But it was not very smooth. Many of the students still whining not able to successfully log in to the discussion thread. They take it as excuse not to participate in the forum. FYI, I was holding a class of 60+ students and I'm performing alone with various level of computer operating skill. But I will try again this term, hope I can try things that I can learn from the class with you guys. :)

Aceh has been reshaped into a better look now. I believe you exactly know how was Aceh back there when you came visiting. The long conflict eventually ended by the strike of the Tsunami. It was a great loss, but the fruit of the massive disaster is the peace that we are living in now. Happy to know you happen to visit Aceh before. Why not pay another visit again someday? :)

  5. Rahmat,

Fantastic profile photo! Your web skills are really impressive! Enjoyed reading your post about personalizing the blog, and especially about the town you live in. Would be great to see a photo of a coffee shop in Indonesia.

    Best,
